Autonomy proposal on right path to solving Sahara issue, Speaker of France's Senate

Speaker of France's Senate Gérard Larcher

Speaker of France's Senate Gérard Larcher said, on Friday in Paris, following a meeting with Speaker of the House of Advisors Mohamed Cheikh Biadillah, that the Moroccan autonomy proposal deserves a lot of attention and is on the right path to settling the conflict over the Sahara issue.

Recalling that the French Senate was on the French government's wavelength, Larcher stressed that reaching a solution to the long-running dispute will serve peace and stability in the Sahel-Saharan region which is threatened by terrorism.

He emphasized the importance of the visit to the Saharan provinces by several French senators last September.

In their report, the members of the French-Moroccan friendship group commended the Moroccan autonomy proposal and highlighted Morocco's development efforts in the region.

Mohamed Cheikh Biadillah is leading an important delegation of advisors on a visit to France.
