Calls for protests via internet are perceived with much serenity

Communication Minister and Government spoksperson Khalid Naciri

Calls posted on different websites to take to the streets are perceived with much serenity in Morocco, Communication Minister and Government spoksperson Khalid Naciri said on Thursday.

"We perceive this with a lot of serenity. Morocco is a country that has engaged, for a long time now, in an irrevesible process of democracy and openness on liberties," the Minister said, in response to a question on the government's reaction to calls made via internet to demonstrate, at a press briefing following the weekly cabinet meeting.

"It does not bother us that citizens express themselves freely, as long as this happens in full respect of our country's immutable values and supreme and vital interests. We have no reason to think otherwise," he added.
