Development efforts in Morocco's southern provinces will steadily continue, interior minister says
Interior Minister Taib Cherqaoui said

Development efforts in Morocco's southern provinces will steadily continue through state development plans, Interior Minister Taib Cherqaoui said on Monday.
In his presentation of the 2011 draft budget of the Ministry before the Interior, Decentralization and Infrastructure commission at the House of Representatives, Cherqaoui said that these development plans mainly target infrastructure and large-scale economic and social projects.

These efforts, the minister added, are part of the revitalization and support of the integrated strategy announced by HM King Mohammed VI for the continuation of mobilization and support for official diplomatic efforts through the launch of bold initiatives.

Among these initiatives, he went on, is the restructuring of the Royal Advisory Council for Saharan Affairs and the Agency for Development and Promotion of the southern provinces.

He commended the total mobilization and the strong cohesion of all society elements around the autonomy plan as well as efforts made to defend the national just cause, defeat the desperate attempts by opponents of Morocco’s territorial integrity in international forums, lift the siege imposed on the Moroccan citizens detained in the Tindouf camps and reveal the fate of the missing people.

Cherqaoui said that extensive reforms were initiated in terms of decentralization in recent years.

These reforms, he added, concern the legislative and regulatory aspects, in addition to developing visions and strategies dedicated to promoting the role of local authorities an essential tool in enhancing local and regional development.
