EU reaffirms support for 'just, lasting, mutually acceptable political solution' to Sahara issue
High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Catherine Ashton

The European Union has reaffirmed its support for a "just, lasting and mutually acceptable political solution" to the Sahara issue.

"EU reaffirms its support for the UN Secretary-General and his Special Envoy in their efforts to reach a just, lasting and mutually acceptable political solution" to the Sahara issue, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Catherine Ashton, said in a statement issued on Wednesday in Brussels.
Ashton, who is also Vice President of the European Commission, welcomed the resumption of informal meetings between Morocco and the polisario front, under the auspices of the UN, underlining that she is "encouraged" that the parties have agreed to meet again later this year.
The 3rd informal meeting on the Sahara was held, on November 8-9 in Manhasset (New York outskirts), at the invitation of the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy Christopher Ross.
Following the talks, Ross stated that the participants decided to meet again in December then at the start of next year.
