"We hope that the US Administration continues its efforts in relation to the position of Arab countries and their peace initiative, and also in relation to members of the Quartet, which will meet shortly," Fassi Fihri, who leads the Moroccan delegation to the Seventh Forum for the Future in Doha, told MAP.
After a working dinner, which brought together on Thursday night the participants in the Forum, the Minister said that the Moroccan delegation reiterated the consistent position of the Kingdom on "the importance and urgency of re-launching on real bases the Israeli-Palestinian negotiating process."
"We welcome the efforts that have been made by the US Administration and by President Obama. But we note that due to Israeli intransigence these efforts have not enabled the continuation of direct negotiations, unfortunately cut short the day of their resumption last September,” he added.
Regarding the Al-Quds Al-Sharif question, Morocco “reaffirmed its condemnation of the settlement policy which is contrary to international law, and recalled the role played by HM the King as president of the Al-Quds Committee of the Organization of the Islamic Conference,” the Minister said.
Considering that the lack of progress in this issue has “an impact on all Muslim societies,” Fassi Fihri stressed “the importance of making every effort to bring Israel to the negotiating table and creating in the best possible conditions and as soon as possible an independent and viable Palestinian state.”
