HM King Mohammed VI receives Christopher Ross

HM King Mohammed VI received, on Thursday at the royal palace of Tétouan (northern Morocco), UN Secretary General Personal Envoy Christopher Ross.

This audience was attended by Morocco's Foreign minister Taib Fassi Fihri.

On this occasion, the Sovereign reiterated the Kingdom's keenness to negotiate and reach a final political solution to this regional dispute, based on UN Security Council resolution 1871 of April 2009, which calls upon the parties to show realism and a spirit of compromise to enter into a more intensive and substantive phase of negotiations.

HM the King Mohammed VI told Ross that the Moroccan autonomy initiative for the Sahara, under the Kingdom's sovereignty, matches the content of the UNSC resolutions.

The international community welcomed this initiative and termed Morocco's efforts in this regard as serious and credible.

HM the King made it clear for ambassador Ross that a multiple choice referendum, which remains very rare in the United Nations practice, is not on the table.
