HM King Mohammed VI, accompanied by Prince Moulay Rachid, enquired, on Friday in the eastern city of Oujda, about the national program for the rehabilitation of mosques and praying rooms in danger of collapse, worth 2.7 billion dirhams ($305 million).
 

    The program was presented by Islamic Affairs Minister Ahmed Toufiq who said that, in accordance with Royal instructions, his department and the Interior Ministry have carried out, over the past three months, a control and technical audit operation on 19,205 worship sites, including 15,770 mosques and 3,435 praying rooms.

       The audit operation detected defects in 10,437 mosques, which represents 54% of the total of controlled mosques. Following this operation, it was decided to definitively close 6% of those buildings and 2% partially.

     It was also decided to restore the remaining 92%, with the revamp, maintenance and reinforcement of 6,674 mosques (64%), carrying out in-depth technical assessment on 3,374 mosques (32%) and the demolition then construction of 389 others.

    In conformity with Royal instructions, priority will be given to mosques that were subject to closure, while providing worshippers with provisional praying rooms during the holy month of Ramadan.

HM King Mohammed VI launches construction works of 300 military housing units, 3 barracks in Oujda

Oujda (east) - HM King Mohammed VI, Supreme Commander and Chief of Staff of the Royal Armed Forces, accompanied by Prince Moulay Rachid, launched, on Friday at the Beni Oukil military site in Oujda, the construction works of 300 military housing units worth 90 million dirhams (10.1 million dollars).

    Details were provided to the monarch regarding this project, which spans on an area of 23,900 sqm and will be finished in 18 months.
    The monarch was also briefed on projects to build three new barracks along with social and economic equipment, including a mosque and social services to be ready within two years for an amount of 172 million dirhams (19.3 million dollars).
    The sovereign enquired about barracks and housing units' construction program in the eastern and south-eastern zones.
    The program provides for the construction of 2,479 housing units and 17 barracks as well as military facilities.

HM The King Presides In Oujda Over Luncheon On Occasion Of 54th Anniversary Of FAR

Oujda - HM King Mohammed VI, Supreme Commander and Chief of Staff of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR), accompanied by Prince Moulay Rachid, presided, on Friday in Oujda (541km east of Rabat), over a luncheon hosted by the sovereign on the occasion of the 54th anniversary of FAR.
    On this occasion, General Abdelaziz Bennani, inspector general of the Royal Armed Forces and Commander of the southern zone, handed a congratulatory message to the monarch on behalf of officers, non-commissioned officers and privates.
    The luncheon was attended by the Prime Minister, speakers of the two houses of Morocco's Parliament, HM the king's advisers, government members, high-ranking officers of the General Staff of the FAR and several civil and military figures.
