HM The King Inaugurates Sidi Yahya Oasis' Recreation Space In Oujda

Oujda - HM King Mohammed VI inaugurated, Friday in Oujda, the Sidi Yahya oasis recreation space, renovated for 72 million dirhams ($8.2mln).

    The sovereign was given details on this ecological and urban project meant for developing the 4.2 hectare-oasis. It also seeks to protect the environment, ensure sustainable development and preserve the city's historical and cultural heritage.

    This upgrading project aims to re-house 489 families living in Sidi Yahya neighbourhood's slums, build a by-pass channel for Sidi Yahya River and revamp green areas.

    It also includes building a hydraulic circuit, 26 shops, two kiosks, and a praying room for women, and rehabilitating Sidi Yahya mausoleum's facades. The project provides for planting palm, poplar and olive trees.

    The renovation of Sidi Yahya oasis is part of the program of Oujda urban upgrading.

    The program is worth 242 million dirhams and lays provisions for building a solid waste treatment plant, rehabilitating the old dumpster, the shores of rivers and Lalla Meriem and Sidi Maafa parks.
