The Centre's director Driss Moulay Rchid gave before the sovereign a presentation wherein he said that the Centre, which has become a driving-force for the region’s development, delivered since its creation 3,522 negative certificates and supported the setting up of over 1,143 companies, 70% of which are limited liability companies and 8% are business corporations.
The newly-established businesses are involved in the sectors of services, trade and the building industry.
Driss Moulay Rchid said the region attracted between 2003 and 2009 over 46.8 billion dirhams ($5.4 billion) of investments, which will generate 65,200 direct jobs.
Tourism tops the economic sectors which have drawn most investments (67%), followed by the building industry (16.14%), and the processing industry (8.34%).
The director also informed HM the King about the progress of structuring projects, as part of the region’s development strategy, in phase with the national sectoral plans: tourism station of Saidia, the Technopole of Oujda, the integrated industrial platform of Selouane in Nador, the Agropole of Berkane, in addition to the restructuring of trade branches through developing new distribution channels and the urban development projects in Oujda.
He also highlighted the infrastructure projects in the region, such as the Fez-Oujda highway, the Mediterranean bypass, the Oujda-Nador road, the Taourirt-Nador railway, the West-Med port in Nador and the new Oujda-Angad airport.
The director underscored the measures that will be taken by his institution to enhance its support ability for small and medium enterprises with the aim to encourage projects that would boost the economic activity in the region.
