HM the King chairs signing ceremony of agreement to develop Oualidia

HM King Mohammed VI chaired, onThursday in Oualidia (near the western city of El Jadida), the signing ceremony of the agreement to develop Oualidia, and preserve its lagoon, for a sum of 329.850 million dirham ($39 million).

The agreement sets the financing terms and commitments of the different partners of this project, including Agriculture and Maritime Fisheries ministry which is required to implement the appropriate measures to improve oyster agriculture and reorganize its activities in the Oualidia bay.
This project seeks to ensure the Oualidia commune sustainable development, protect its potential oyster-farming, and preserve its bay as an ecological site and wetland governed by the Convention on Wetlands of International Importance (RAMSAR).
This agreement also regulates the use of wetland ecosystems with the aim of achieving sustainable development.
The project is also expected to organize the sector of livestock-farming as well as  milk and red meat production (on an area of 800 ha east of the bay) and market gardening, which will help farmers increase their incomes and preserve their jobs.
