Several eminent figures attended the ceremony, including French president Nicholas Sarkozy and the spouse of the former French president Jacques Chirac, Bernadette.

 Among the Arab personalities invited were Lebanese president Michel Sleiman, Sheikh Salman bin Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa, Crown Prince of Bahrain, and Prince Faiçal bin al Hussein of Jordan.
