Human rights have Moroccan Govt's full attention, diplomat

Human rights continue to have the Moroccan government's full and entire attention despite the world economic slump, Morocco's ambassador to the United Nations in Geneva Omar Hilale said on Monday.

This attention is shown through the National Initiative for Human Development launched by HM King Mohammed VI in 2005 and the achievements of the development programs implemented by the regional development agencies, Hilale said at a meeting on "the impact of the global financial and economic crisis on the universal realization and the effective enjoyment of human rights", held as part of the UNHRC 13th session.

The Moroccan diplomat said Morocco, aware that these crises' effects on human rights require comprehensive answers taking account of the human and social approach, set appropriate mechanisms to promote macro-economic stability through a strategic watch committee.

He said this approach enabled the north African country to witness a solid resilience thanks to the 2009 exceptional agricultural season and a stable and strong financial system.
