  Rabat -

Morocco, 'Human rights leader in the region,' US senator
United States senator Benjamin Cardin said on Monday that Morocco is a "leader in the region in terms of human rights."

"We congratulate Morocco for understanding challenges and taking steps to continue improving Human rights," Cardin told the press after a meeting with Morocco's Secretary General to Foreign Ministry Youssef Amrani.

The US senator said that this meeting focused on many issues including Morocco-USA Free Trade Agreement and the mutual security interests, adding that the relations between the two countries "are very important."

For his part, Amrani said the discussions centred on numbers of regional issues, the reforms launched by the Kingdom and some concerns regarding security and stability in the region.

Stressing that the two countries’ views regarding some regional issues converge, the Moroccan official underlined that Morocco and USA are linked with “distinguished relations” in the political field.
