Speaking at a press conference, Cherqaoui reaffirmed the determination of Morocco and Spain to continue dialogue, intensify ongoing consultations and bolster their bilateral ties in the different areas, in implementation of the instructions of the two countries' heads of States, HM King Mohammed VI and King Juan Carlos of Spain.
The solid cooperation between the two parties enabled achieving positive results, mainly in reducing illegal immigration, seizing smuggled drug, and dismantling networks of organized crime, he said.
On the meeting, held on Tuesday with first vice-president of Spanish government and Interior Minister Alfredo Pérez Rubalcaba, the Moroccan official said that the talks touched on issues of shared interest and the challenges facing both countries, namely illegal immigration, drug trafficking, terrorism and other kinds of organized crime.
It was an occasion to sign a memorandum of understanding related to the appointment of liaison officers in Madrid Barajas and Casablanca Mohammed V airports, in addition to a cooperation agreement on the fight against new modus operandis, particularly the use of aircrafts.
Regarding security cooperation, he went on, a cross-border police cooperation agreement was signed to set up cross-border police cooperation centers in Algesiras and Tanger-Med ports.
