Communications minister, spokesman for the Government, Khalid Naciri, told the press following the weekly cabinet meeting that the ministers, who debated a presentation by the Interior Minister Taieb Cherqaoui on the terror cell broken up recently in Morocco, expressed their great appreciation for the security forces' vigilance.
He added that the government called for further caution to defend the nation's best interests.
Cherqaoui told the meeting that the investigations showed that the weapons seized following the dismantling of the cell were brought to Morocco by traffickers who used to operate at the level of the line of defence.
The Interior Minister noted that these traffickers benefited from support from five soldiers who facilitated the smuggling in return for money without even checking the nature of the smuggled goods.
He said these soldiers had no links to terror networks and were unaware that the smuggled goods were weapons.
Cherqaoui said that investigations are under way to arrest the smugglers and that the soldiers will be brought to justice on charges of goods trafficking and smuggling.
