The meeting focused on efforts made to insure stability, peace and progress in the Mediterranean region, said Gama to the press at the end of the encounter.
The Portuguese official reiterated his country’s support to the European Union’s initiatives that aim at strengthening relations with Morocco, adding that Portugal pays a particular attention to Morocco’s efforts, notably in terms of finding a settlement to the Sahara issue.
For his part, Fassi Fihri said that talks with the Portuguese official tackled the means to further consolidate Morocco’s relations with the European Union.
The meeting focused also on the Kingdom’s efforts to reach a political solution to the Sahara issue, particularly Morocco's initiative to grant autonomy to its southern provinces, he added.
The top Moroccan diplomat underlined that the talks were also an opportunity to showcase Morocco’s political, social and economic achievements.
The Visiting Portuguese official had talks earlier in the day with Morocco’s Prime Minister Abbas El Fassi on issues of common interest, particularly bilateral cooperation in the economic field and Morocco’s relations with the European Union.
The Portuguese official also met with Speaker of Morocco’s House of Representative, Mustapha Mansouri, and Speaker of the House of Advisors Mohamed Cheikh Biadillah.
