Speaking at a conference held in Rabat by the Institute of Higher Management Studies under the theme "Obama: A year later," the US diplomat pointed to the respect and credibility enjoyed by the Kingdom at the international level.
He said Morocco, "a country with a long history of religious tolerance," has always been a land of encounter and exchange of ideas and may be the ideal country to find common ground between Palestinians and Israelis.
Kaplan reiterated the position of the Obama Administration vis-à-vis the conflict in the Middle East, which advocates a two-State solution and the total freeze of Jewish settlements in Palestinian territories.
He added that President Obama believes firmly in a two-State solution, Palestine and Israel, and envisages a stronger commitment of the United States to the peace process on sustainable and comprehensive bases.
