Morocco, whose Sovereign chairs the Al-Quds Committee, voiced its deep concern and condemnation of all Israeli decisions and actions which aim to change the international legal status of the holy city, said the Kingdom’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Mohamed Loulichki.
Morocco also reiterated its call upon the international community to assume its responsibilities by forcing Israel to end its unilateral practices, Loulichki added before the Security Council at its monthly debate on the Middle East issue.
The diplomat cited the recent destruction by Israel of a historic hotel to build 22 homes in the city center. He also noted that Israel announced the construction of 1,400 additional housing to the settlers in the southern part of Al Quds.
While strongly condemning the continued of its accelerated settlement policy, Loulichki warned against Israeli plans to empty Al-Quds of its Palestinian inhabitants through forced eviction, demolition of their houses and abolition of their rights of residence, in a flagrant violation of the international and humanitarian law, relevant Security Council resolutions and the roadmap.
He also protested against Israel’s provocative decisions which offend the feelings of the faithful by targeting Muslim holy places. This policy was disavowed, many times, by the international community as it feeds risks of extremism, he said.
