Hassan Abouyoub, Morocco's ambassador to Italy and Permanent Representative of the Kingdom

Morocco was elected, on Wednesday in Rome, Chairman of the Group of 77 + China to the United Nations institutions in the Italian capital (FAO, WFP and IFAD) for 2011.

This chairmanship will be held by Hassan Abouyoub, Morocco's ambassador to Italy and Permanent Representative of the Kingdom to these institutions.

Morocco was elected unanimously by the members of the African Group whose turn it is, according to the principle of rotation, to chair the G77 + China.

The G77 + China is a coalition of developing countries, designed to promote its members' collective economic interests and create an enhanced joint negotiating capacity in the United Nations.

Created in 1964 by 77 countries, the group has now over 130 members.
