Morocco has shown commitment to environment

Morocco has manifested its commitment to the environment through the celebration of the 40th anniversary of Earth Day (17-24 April), President of Earth Day network said on Monday.

The Moroccans are making extraordinary headway everywhere, not only in the capital or in major cities, and they have demonstrated their interest in finding a solution to the issue of the environment, Kathleen Rogers said in an interview from Washington with Moroccan radio station chaîne inter.

For Rogers, Earth Day has become a world-famous event recognized by more than one billion people around the world, for a cleaner planet and a new green economy.

Morocco has also made the environment a priority, and is involved in this movement through the charter of the environment, she said.

The President of Earth Day Network, who advocates an approach to a green economy that generates new clean technologies as being the first solution to the economic crisis, commended the actions carried out by the city of Rabat and the enthusiasm shown by citizens.

She also voiced surprise at Morocco’s engagement to make Earth Day an important event, and its commitment to the environment, which, she said, will make it leader not only in the region but worldwide.

Expressing optimism about the future of the planet, the president of Earth Day network has, however, stressed the need for everyone to get concerned, particularly in view of the deterioration of the environment, the degradation of biodiversity and the global warming.
