Morocco is a role model in MENA region in human rights, AI says

- The experience of Morocco's Equity and Reconcilation Commission (IER) has made the Kingdom a model to follow in the MENA region in terms of handling human rights issues, said on Saturday in Bouznika (south of Rabat), the head of Amnesty International's Moroccan branch.

Mohamed Sektaoui underscored the achievements made by Morocco in the area of human rights, adding, however, that the Kingdom "has to further foster the culture of human rights to include all areas."

He was speaking to MAP on the sidelines of the general assembly of Amnesty International's Moroccan branch.

The establishment of human rights, he said, depends on the application of clear and strict measures against those who violate human rights, stressing the need to give priority to education in developing government programmes, in order to better address the country's critical issues.

He noted that Amnesty International (Morocco section) will forge partnerships with development organizations working in rural areas to enable poor people to fully enjoy their rights.
