- This vision "is mainly based on instructions of HM King Mohammed VI to counter with determination the maneuvers hatched by the adversaries of Morocco’s territorial integrity,” Fassi Fihri said a meeting at the House of Representatives.
The top Moroccan diplomat said that negotiations, which were held in the presence of Algeria, Mauritania and the “polisario”, focused on the implementation of UN Security Council resolution 1813 and 1871 which call notably for engaging in substantive negotiations, taking into account Morocco’s efforts since 2006 and showing realism and a spirit of compromise.
Fassi Fihri recalled that the talks took place in a context marked by propaganda campaigns staged by the “polisario”, supported by its mentor Algeria, with the aim to block negotiations.
He added that these hostile campaigns, which make use of alleged “human rights violations,” came at a time when the separatist thesis was losing ground in several international and regional bodies which pushed the adversaries of Morocco’s territorial integrity to make a deliberate use of human rights issues, in a desperate attempt to seek the support of countries that are known for backing Morocco.
The Kingdom drew the attention of the UN Secretary General, before the informal talks, to these dangerous maneuvers and stressed that the negotiations should be directed towards finding a political and lasting solution to the Sahara issue, Fassi Fihri said.
The Moroccan delegation showcased during the talks the autonomy plan, which represents an open and initiative in line with Security Council resolutions.
