"We deem that the European Union, along with other countries represented in the Marrakech Security Forum, play a key-role in combating terrorism which is sometimes linked to fundamentalist movements," De Crem told MAP before the opening of the 2nd international meeting on security in Africa.
On the danger posed by the Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) which aspires to bring together all the Maghreb's jihadists, De Crem underlined that a concrete solution cannot be but multidimensional and concerted between as many actors as possible.
He said, during a plenary session as part of the forum, that all AQIM's leaders seem to be Algerians from the former Salafist Group for Preaching and Combat (GSPC).
"I think that Morocco is able not only to bring a substantial contribution to the fight against terrorism, but also to build bridges in the region and at the international level," the Minister noted.
There is a very good dialogue between the EU and Morocco which has an in-depth and balanced knowledge of the region and an intense cooperation with Mauritania, he added, underlining that the Kingdom is one of the most important and indispensible countries of the region for managing this issue.
Themed "Africa facing the challenges of Terrorism: AQIM a strategic threat?", this meeting is organized in partnership with the African Federation For Strategic Studies (FAES) and the Moroccan Center for Strategic Studies (CMES).
