"Morocco has been one of the key partners of this programme, launched in 2005 for the MENA region, but in view of the current crisis facing some of its countries, its role is becoming more and more important," Gues told MAP on the sidelines of a high-level consultation in Paris on the impact of ongoing changes in the region on the Initiative.
He voiced conviction that the efforts of Morocco, a "stable" country which has embarked on a reform process, will make it possible for the Organisation to rise to challenges.
Geus reiterated the Organisation's support for the various reforms undertaken in Morocco, especially in respect of the fight against corruption and the promotion of governance.
He said it is also in Morocco’s interest, from an economic perspective, to have this international initiative to contribute to development in the MENA region.
The Initiative on Governance and Investment for Development is a regional effort, initiated and led by countries in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). It promotes broad reforms to enhance the investment climate, modernise governance structures and operations, strengthen regional and international partnerships, and promote sustainable economic growth throughout the MENA region.
