Taïb Fassi Fhiri, who informed the weekly cabinet meeting of his meeting with a Libyan delegation of the Transitional National Council and with Libyan Deputy Foreign Minister in charge of Arab affairs, underlined that Morocco stands by the brotherly Libyan people towards a political solution which preserves Libya's national territorial unity in order that the Libyan people can decide on their future, Communications Minister, Government Spokesman Khalid Naciri quoted Fassi Fihri as saying.
Naciri said, at a press briefing after the cabinet meeting, that Morocco, which considers what is going on in Libya to be first and foremost a sovereign issue of the Libyan people, closely follows the current hardship endured by this people.
"Our respect for the Libyan people's sovereignty cannot prevent us from expressing our complete disapproval of acts of violence targeting unarmed civilians."
He added that "we cannot accept that expressing a peaceful, democratic political position by the Libyan people or by any other people be faced with violence and with refusal of any political solution.”
We consider that the Libyan problem requires a political solution, and that is why Morocco opted for a strictly humanitarian approach, the minister said.
The Kingdom will continue to pay undivided attention to the Libyan people’s wish to turn the page on the gloomy years and build democracy, and the Libyan people can count on Morocco’s full support, Naciri concluded.
