Morocco takes part at UN-Habitat 23rd Governing Council
A Moroccan delegation is attending the 23rd Session of the Governing Council of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT) which opened on Monday and runs until April 15.

Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki presided over the opening ceremony of the event, held under the theme “Sustainable Urban Development through Expanding Equitable Access to Land, Housing, Basic Services and Infrastructure”.

The Governing Council is a subsidiary body of the General Assembly (GA) of the United Nations and serves as the intergovernmental decision-making body of UN-Habitat. It reports to the GA through the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).

On Saturday at the UN office in Nairoby, Morocco chaired an African Ministerial Conference on Housing and Urban Development (AMCHUD).

Housing Minister, Ahmed Taoufiq Hejira, who chaired the conference, announced that Morocco will host an AMCHUD’s meeting next September.
