Speaking at the House of the Representatives question time on the latest developments on the Sahara issue, Fassi Fihri said these maneuvers take place as Morocco had achieved progress in this issue, noting that the enemies of the Kingdom constantly seek to stall the process and impose a status quo situation to prolong the conflict.
Algeria has set up a strategy to undermine the efforts made by Morocco to defend its territorial integrity by maintaining the status quo and calling up on the referendum, an option considered null and void, he said.
To this end, Fassi Fihri said, Algeria has mobilized huge financial and diplomatic means to give the impression that the situation in the southern provinces is instable.
The Minister said the Moroccan initiative to grant substantial autonomy to its southern provinces has created a dynamic leading towards a solution to the issue of the Moroccan Sahara. This initiative considers negotiation as the sole path meant to put an end to this artificial conflict, Fassi Fihri said.
He also underlined that the UN General Assembly and the Security Council have worked out a consensual and realist political solution which rules out the option of independence he described as unrealistic.
