"It is necessary to support [Mahmoud Abbas] Abu Mazen and the Palestinian position over the freezing of settlements towards final status negotiations," the minister told his counterparts of the Arab Peace Initiative commission.
He recalled the efforts made by HM King Mohammed VI, chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, aimed at halting Israel's Judaisation in the holy city.
Fassi Fihri emphasized the Arab Peace Initiative which, he said, "reflects the Arab vision to reach a lasting and comprehensive solution, put an end to the conflict and establish peace and coexistence in the region."
The meeting, held under the chairmanship of Qatar, reaffirmed the Arab position calling for Israel’s withdrawal to the 1967 borders and recognizing the Palestinians' right to the occupied city of Al Quds and the refugees' right of return in keeping with the international resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.
