NGO Says Concerned about Violence against Women in Tindouf Camps
The Union de l'Action Féminine (UAF) voiced, on Tuesday, its concern over the physical, moral and psychological violence against women in the Tindouf camps, southwest of Algeria.

"Our NGO is particularly concerned about violence, not only physical, but also moral and psychological endured by women in the militarized camps run by armed separatist groups," the representative of the UAF told the 14th session of the UN Human Rights Council.

She deplored the fact that failing any international protection and given the refusal of the militia and the countries supporting them to allow UN bodies' and NGO's access to the camps, women have no means to make their complaints reach the international community.

The NGO noted that these women are victims of physical violence, forced reproduction and lack of access to health care, in addition to miserable living conditions in an open prison.

It called on special rapporteurs to pay attention to the situation of these women as well as to other situations across the world, urging the Council to endeavour to allow free access of international organizations to those camps to help the detained women.
