HM the King lays foundation stone of a social center for fishermen in M'diq.

M'diq   -  HM King Mohammed VI laid, on Wednesday in M'diq, the foundation stone of a social center for fishermen, to be carried out by the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity at a total cost of 4 million dirhams.
 
07 December 2011    The center provides social assistance, counseling, literacy and awareness raising courses to fishermen. The facility will also offer beneficiaries radio contact services during their fishing trips for their safety.

    Built on an area of 550 square meters, the center will have, among others, spaces for the deposit of fishing equipment, training rooms, consulting and first aid rooms, an infirmary, an "SOS Radio" space and an office for social assistance.

    The center is entirely funded by the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity.

HM the King launches development works of M'diq fishing port.

M'diq   -  HM King Mohammed VI launched, on Wednesday in M'diq, development works of the city’s fishing port, for a total cost of 10 million dirhams.
 
07 December 2011- The project is part of the new vision for the landscaped renewal of the city’s coastal zone.


    On this occasion, the Sovereign heard explanations on this project that aims at redeveloping the fishing port as part of the new vision for the landscaped renewal of the city’s coastal zone.

   The upgrading works in the port provide for the creation of an area of activities and the optimization of traffic, as well as the respect of hygiene and sanitation standards in terms of fish marketing.

    The project, which will be carried out by Morocco’s Port Agency (ANP), also includes the development of roads and sidewalks, the renovation of the facades, the establishment of lighting columns, the development of green spaces, and the resettlement of small fish restaurants in the port of M’diq.
 
HM the King launches man-made reef development and immersion works off Martil .

Martil  -  HM King Mohammed VI launched, on Wednesday, works to develop and immerse a man-made reef off the city of Martil (north of Morocco), worth 37,5 million dirhams.
 
07 December 2011-      The project will contribute to enhancing sustainable development, improving socio-economic conditions of small-scale fishermen and boosting the region’s tourist attractiveness

-      The Sovereign enquires about fisheries development programme by setting up 29 man-made reefs, worth 500 million dirhams.

-      HM the King enquires about programme to restock man-made reefs with fish, worth 100 million dirhams


        The project aims at reconstructing and rehabilitating degraded marine areas, ensuring rational, sustainable use of biological resources, preserving marine biological diversity and improving small-scale fishermen’s income.

    It will be carried out on 52 hectares, nearly one kilometre away from the coast, with a depth of between 21 and 40 metres.

    HM the King also enquired about the fisheries development programme by setting up man-made reefs, worth 500 million dirhams.   

    The programme consists of setting up 29 man-made reefs by 2020. It will eventually create indirect jobs by developing new activities, doubling the production of the species concerned, increasing fishermen’s income by 50%, reducing illicit trawling in 90% of sites and preserving marine biological diversity.

     The Monarch also heard details on the programme to restock man-made reefs with fish, worth 100 million dirhams.

    Under this programme, the man-made reefs of Souiria K’Dima (near Safi) were stocked with 40,000 sea bass alevins in 2010 and 15,000 meagre alevins in 2011.

HM the King appoints PJD leader Abdelilah Benkirane Head of Government

Midelt  -  HM King Mohammed VI received, on Tuesday in Midelt (central Morocco), Abdelilah Benkirane, Secretary General of the Justice and Development Party (PJD), and appointed him Head of Government (Prime Minister), the Ministry of the Royal Household, Protocol and Chancellery announced in a statement.
 
29 November 2011    With 107 seats in the 395-seat House of Representatives, the Justice and Development Party (PJD) won a landslide victory in the parliamentary election, held Friday in Morocco.

    The new Head of Government was born in 1954 in Rabat. In 1979, he obtained a master’s degree in physical sciences. He then teached in the training school of teachers in Rabat.

    He was elected secretary-general of the PJD in 2008.

    The new Head of Government, who joined the Shabiba Islamiya in 1976, was president of the “Reform and Renewal” movement and of the PJD’s national council.   

    Benkirane, who was also managing director of the newspapers “Al-Islah”, “Al-Raya” and “Attajdid”, is father of six.
