The Moroccan approach "will enable progress towards the settlement of the Sahara issue and the building of the Arab Maghreb Union for a better future of the peoples of the region," the Peruvian official said at a joint press conference with Morocco's Foreign Minister, Taib Fassi Fihri, following their talks.
Belaunde also expressed his country's support for "efforts made within the framework of the United Nations and under the supervision of the Secretary General and his Personal Envoy to achieve a just, sustainable, definitive and mutually acceptable political solution."
For his part, Fassi Fihri praised the outstanding achievements of the Peruvian government in terms of economic and social development.
Both officials also called on the two countries’ businessmen to explore areas of cooperation and take advantage of opportunities offered by Morocco and Peru, stressing the importance of the Arab-South American Business forum, to be held in Lima in February 2011.
They also reiterated their commitment to promote South-South cooperation and work towards maintaining and strengthening the ongoing constructive dialogue, initiated as part of the Summit of South American-Arab Countries (ASPA).
Expressing their satisfaction at the excellent bilateral relations, the two Ministers agreed to deepen the political dialogue between Morocco and Peru through political consultations.
They also stressed the need to promote the peace process in the Middle East for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.
