  Lisbon -

Portuguese Govt. distances itself from motion adopted by its Parliament on Haidar's case
Portuguese Foreign Minister, Luis Amado, said on Wednesday that his country's government distances itself from the motion adopted recently by the Portuguese Parliament about the case of Aminatou Haidar.

"This is a deliberation in Parliament that took place in a specific context, which does not reflect the position of the Portuguese Government on the Sahara issue," Amado told the Portuguese news agency Lusa after a meeting of the Parliamentary Committee for Foreign Affairs.
"The good relations between the two governments will continue," he added.
Morocco expressed on Tuesday "astonishment" and "disappointment" following the adoption by the Portuguese parliament of an "unfriendly" motion about the case of Aminatou Haidar.
"We took note of the position of Morocco, but we believe that this case does not undermine the good relations that exist between Portugal and Morocco,” the minister went on.
Concerning Haidar’s case, Amado said that “it is a matter which concerns two neighbouring states of Portugal,” namely Morocco and Spain.
“This case concerns two neighboring states with which we are bound by treaties of friendship and good neighbourly relations. We cannot intervene,” Amado said.
