Morocco's post office, Barid Al Maghrib (BAM), achieved 2.36 billion dirhams ($236.6 million) in total revenues in 2009, a 22.5% increase on 2008, it reported on Wednesday.

Amine Benjelloun Touimi, the BAM managing director noted, during the meeting of the BAM board, that the net operating profits stood at 358 million dirhams, a 28.3% rise from a year earlier.

He added that the turnover stood at 820 million dirhams (+12%) and financial services achieved 1.43 billion dirhams, compared to 1.1 billion dirhams in 2008 (+30%).

Prime Minister Abbas El Fassi, who chaired the BAM board meeting, voiced satisfaction with the positive results achieved by the post office in spite of the global financial crisis, noting that the BAM will become a limited liability company.
