In a meeting with a delegation of French senators led by the chairman of the French-Moroccan friendship group at the Senate Christian Cambon, El Fassi thanked France for supporting Morocco to get an advanced status with the EU, a statement of the Prime Minister's Office said.
The Prime Minister informed the French delegation about the latest developments of the Kingdom's territorial integrity, recalling that the international community, aware of the truth about this artificial conflict, backs the Moroccan stance.
On this occasion, he recalled the withdrawal by several countries of their recognition of the so-called SADR, highlighting the support of the members of the international community for the Moroccan autonomy initiative for the southern provinces under Morocco's sovereignty.
He also recalled the sufferings of the Moroccan Sahrawis held against their will in the camps of Tindouf (southwest of Algeria).
The Prime Minister informed the French senators of the Kingdom's achievements in the political, economic and social fields since the enthronement of HM King Mohammed VI.
These achievements, he said, include the promotion of democracy, women empowerment, the reinforcement of public liberties, and the continuation of the policy of far-reaching projects which generate jobs.
For his part, Cambon said the autonomy initiative proposed by the Kingdom is "a practical solution to the dispute and an important contribution to security and stability in the whole region."
He also reaffirmed his country's support for efforts made by Morocco to reach a political solution to the Sahara issue.
