Referendum voting for the new constitution begins

Moroccan voters began trickling to polling stations, on Friday starting from 8:00, to cast their ballots in the referendum on the new constitution, whose broad lines were highlighted by HM King Mohammed VI in a speech to the nation on June 17.

Around 13,106,948 registered citizens in electoral lists are eligible to vote. In this respect, 39.969 polling stations were opened across the Kingdom in addition to 520 set up in Morocco’s Embassies and Consulates to enable the Moroccans living abroad to have a say in the referendum.

The members of the Royal Armed Forces, and security forces, including the Royal Gendarmerie, the police and Auxiliary Forces are also taking part in the vote, which will end at 19:00.

The referendum campaign lasted from June 21 and to Thursday, June 30.
