Autonomy is a 'good initiative', polisario's top leader says
Mustapha Ould Salma Sidi Mouloud, Chief Inspector of the polisario's police The autonomy plan proposed by Morocco to settle the Sahara issue is a "good initiative," said on Monday in Smara (southern Morocco) Mustapha Ould Salma Sidi Mouloud, Chief Inspector of the polisario's police.

 + Autonomy, a good initiative+

"Autonomy is a good initiative; it is the best possible solution to the Sahara issue, Sidi Mouloud said at a press conference.

The top Polisario leader, who was abducted in 1979, along with his family, and taken to the Tindouf camps, said this initiative gives the Saharan populations the opportunity to democratically manage their affairs while preserving their specificities.

Unfortunately, he went on to say, "the polisario does not allow the population held captive in the camps of Tindouf to discuss this initiative."

Sidi Mouloud, who did his studies in Libya and Algeria and got a higher diploma in physics, hailed Morocco's democratization process and its large-scale projects.

+ Morocco, an open, democratic and pluralist country +

“Morocco is an open, democratic and pluralist country,” he said, stressing the polisario’s continued stubbornness to distort the image of Morocco.

He also lauded the project of extensive regionalization which will be carried out under the leadership of HM King Mohammed VI.

Ould Salma Sidi Mouloud, 42, said he is determined to defend, once he returns to the Lahmada camps, the pertinence of the autonomy initiative and highlight the progress accomplished by Morocco in respect of development and democracy in an attempt to win the support of the Saharan population for Morocco’s choices.

+The Tindouf camps, the most inhospitable place in the world+

Referring to the situation in Tindouf, south of Algeria, Ould Salma Sidi Mouloud said these camps are “the most inhospitable place in the world.”

He stressed that the life conditions in these camps are unbearable. “There is no radio, no TV, and education is paramilitary,” said Sidi Mouloud, son of a famous sheikh of the Rguibat tribe.

He also underlined that the polisario's leaders are enriching themselves to the detriment of the population held against their will in the Tindouf camps, denouncing their monopoly of authority and power.

+ The polisario firmly opposes dialogue and democracy+

“Mohamed Abdelaziz and his band are running the polisario since 1975,” he said, adding that the separatists firmly oppose dialogue and democracy.

He reaffirmed his resolve to stand up for his courageous stances no matter what the price is. “I oversee all the prisons in Tindouf and I do not mind to be sent there for expressing my opinions.”
