The next informal talks on Sahara to be held on June 5-7 in Manhasset

The next informal talks on the Sahara, at the invitation of the United Nations Secretary General's Personal Envoy Christopher Ross, will be held "on June 5-7 in Manhasset", in the presence of Morocco, Algeria, Mauritania and the Polisario, UN spokesman Martin Nesirky announced on Thursday.

"As agreed by the parties during the sixth round of informal talks in March", delegations of the parties to the conflict over the Sahara “will meet on June 5-7 at Greentree, Long Island", Nesirky said at his daily briefing.

The talks, opened in August 2009 in Austria, will prepare the ground for the 5th round of formal negotiations that aimed at finding a final political solution to the regional dispute over the Sahara.

They are part of the implementation of resolutions 1813 (2008), 1871 (2009), 1920 (2010) and 1979 (2011) of the Security Council, which call on parties to enter into a phase of intense and substantial negotiations
