The French topped the list with 2.9 million tourists (5%), followed by the Spaniards (1.7 million tourists, +12%), the Belgians (436,000 tourists, +14%), the Dutch (410,000 tourists, +14%), the Germans (391,000 tourists, +2%), the Britons (330,000 tourists, -8 pc) and the Italians (289,000 tourists, +11%).
Despite the rise in arrivals, overnight stays decreased 2% in January-November 2009.
The Tourism Department said the downward trend in overnight stays is due to the "negative performance of the three main tourist destinations, namely Marrakech (-2%), Agadir (-4%) and Casablanca (-2%)."
Tourism receipts totaled some 48 billion dirhams ($ 6 billion), that is a decline of 6% in the first eleven months compared to the same period in 2008.
