Speaking at a press briefing, held after the release of several people convicted in connection with Belliraj cell and other terrorism cases, El Yazami said that this decision is part of measures undertaken to promote Morocco's political détente and confidence-building aspired by all citizens.
HM King Mohammed VI granted pardon to 190 prisoners in response to a memorandum submitted to His Majesty by the President and the Secretary General of the Council.
For his part, SG of the CNDH, Mohamed Sebbar said that the royal decision stems from a strong willingness to promote the values of human rights, establish the rule of law and entrench a culture of justice and equity.
He added that this event is the culmination of efforts made by the families of released prisoners and the actions of human rights activists and organizations, ensuring that the CNDH will work to protect any person who is a victim of unfair trial.
In a speech on behalf of the freed prisoners, Mustapha Mouatassim, thanked the Council, human rights bodies and organizations, media and the youth of 20 February, urging the CNDH to continue its efforts to free other detainees.
