The first agreement was signed by Moroccan Energy minister Amina Benkhadra and provides for building a pilot new city with low energy consumption (Ch'rafat, in the northern region of Tangier).
France will grant over 521K euros to finance the project while Morocco will fund and construct the pilot building. The French Fund for the World Environment (FFEM) will also grant 900 K euros to back the national program of energy efficiency in the building industry.
The second agreement was inked by the Moroccan Agency for the development of renewable energy and energy efficiency (ADEREE) and the French Environment and Energy Management Agency (ADEME). It is aimed at boosting bilateral cooperation in renewable energy and clean technologies, and raising awareness on issues related to sustainable development and climate change.
The third accord, which was signed by the Moroccan state-owned electricity facility (ONE) and the French Development Agency (AFD), concerns the funding of the 5th phase of the Global Rural Electrification Program (PERG). It will supply power in eight provinces and benefit 449 villages (17,872 households) for an amount of 534 million dirhams.
