Short Film 'Apnée' wins 'Cinecole' award of Marrakech International Film Festival

Young Moroccan director Mahassine Hachad won the Grand Prix of the short film competition (Cinecole) at the Marrakech International Film Festival (FIFM) for her film "Apnée".

The 300,000 dirham award, which was handed out by Eva Mendes, is personally allocated by HRH Prince Moulay Rachid, the Marrakech International Film Festival Foundation President and initiator of this idea.

HRH Prince Moulay Rachid said in an editorial on the Festival's website that "the FIFM has decided to partner our country's budding talent. So we have gone to the Kingdom's various film and audiovisual schools in search of fledgling directors' first efforts to compete for a prize allowing the best of them to undertake, in professional conditions, the making of a first short film."

The ten-minute short film tells the story of a young woman at the bedside of his aged and sick father to the point that he could not support himself alone.  The girl is then torn between the burden of watching over her father on the one hand and the moral duty and affection which she holds towards him on the other.
