FAO holds, from May 17 to 21, the 139th session of its council, which is the executive instrument of the Conference, the supreme governing body of organization.
The Council, currently chaired by French Luc Guyau, has 49 members and is concerned with the situation of food and agriculture in the world and related issues as well as with the Organization’s current and future activities.
Speaking Monday on behalf of the African Group, Abouyoub tackled the issue of food insecurity, stressing the need to mobilize the international community to eradicate this phenomenon, which affects hundreds of millions of people around the world.
The Moroccan official also called for adopting modern agricultural development policies tailored to the needs of local population and promoting subsistence agriculture.
He said that both South-South and North-South cooperation is essential to fight food crisis.
