Prayer Times

God has ordered the Muslims to perform five mandatory prayers every day. These prayers are distributed throughout the day and a part of the night.

Prayer is the second pillar of Islam. It was prescribed at the Ascension of the Prophet (PBUH) to heaven (al Mi'raj). It is of vital importance in Islam.

The latest recommendations of the prophet (PBUH) to the believers were to take good care of women and prayer. The latter is the pillar of Islam that is most frequently mentioned in the Quran.

The word “salat” (Prayer in Arabic) means invocations. Thus, we read in Surat At-Tawbah (repentance) verse 103: “Take, [O, Muhammad], from their wealth a charity by which you purify them and cause them increase, and invoke [Allah’s blessings] upon them. Indeed, your invocations (prayers) are reassurance for them. And Allah is Hearing and Knowing”. We also read in Surat Al-Furqan (discernment), verse 77: “Say, "What would my Lord care for you if not for your supplication (prayers)?"
The prayer is defined as a series of acts starting with Takbir (pronouncing the phrase "Allahu Akbar" (Allah is the Greatest)), followed by genuflections and prostrations and ending with the Taslim (pronouncing the phrase “Assalamou ‘alaykoum” (peace be upon you)).

Information about prayer times in different cities of the Kingdom are available in the website of the Ministry of Habous: www.habous.gov.ma
