The 61st Congress of the International Association of Judges (IAJ) opened on Monday in Marrakech, with the participation of judges and senior judicial officials from 87 countries.

Held under the high patronage of HM King Mohammed VI and organized by the Amicale Hassania des Magistrats, this five-day meeting will be an opportunity to share experiences and expertise and strengthen partnerships between Morocco and several countries as well as major international organizations.

The program of this meeting includes activities, meetings and workshops on current topics related to justice and the challenges facing the judicial institution worldwide in the civil, criminal, commercial and human rights fields.

The organizers will devote Wednesday to an international conference on the theme "the independence of justice and the establishment of the universal status of judges" with the participation of senior officials representing major international organizations to discuss the issue of the independence of justice, the challenges of establishing trust, the achievement of justice in the service of citizens.

Founded in Salzburg (Austria) in 1953, the AIJ is a professional, non-political, international organization, bringing together national associations of judges, not individual judges, approved by the Central Council for admission to the Association.

The main aim of the Association is to safeguard the independence of the judiciary, which is an essential requirement of the judicial function, guaranteeing human rights and freedom.

The organization currently encompasses 87 such national associations or representative groups, from five Continents.
