Andean Parliament Reiterates Support for Autonomy Initiative as Definitive Solution to Sahara Conflict
President of the Andean Parliament, Hugo Quiroz Vallejo, reiterated on Wednesday in Rabat his support for the autonomy initiative proposed by Morocco as a definitive solution to the artificial conflict over the Sahara, within the framework of the Kingdom's sovereignty.
During talks with speaker of the House of Advisors, Hakim Benchamach, Quiroz Vallejo affirmed the Andean Parliament's determination to support Morocco's serious efforts to promote dialogue and seek peaceful solutions to conflicts.
In this regard, Quiroz Vallejo praised the initiative to create an Afro-Latin American parliamentary forum as a platform for exchange and agreement on common challenges at the regional and continental levels, as well as on international issues, affirming his willingness to present this project at the next session of the Andean Parliament, in order to take the necessary steps to implement this qualitative initiative.
For his part, Benchamach said that this visit reflects the depth of the relationship between the House of Advisors and the Andean Parliament, underlining the strategic importance given by the Kingdom, under the leadership of HM King Mohammed VI, to the diversification of international partnerships, within the framework of South-South cooperation.
Morocco is the first African and Arab country to enjoy advanced partner status with the Andean Parliament, under an agreement signed in July 2018.
