Anti-Terrorism: Morocco, ‘Solid’ Ally of International Community, Says Peter Pham

Morocco is a "solid" ally of the international community in the fight against terrorism in Africa thanks to its multi-dimensional strategy that addresses the sources of violent extremism, Peter Pham, Director of the Atlantic Council think tank's Africa Center, said Wednesday in Washington.

"Fortunately, the international community has, in this volatile region, solid and distinguished allies, such as Morocco, with which it works not only to combat terrorism, but also to eradicate the roots of extremism", Pham said before the National Security Commission of the United States House of Representatives.

In this regard, he explained that Morocco, in a region beset by threats of terrorist and extremist groups, is distinguished by its "aggressive and multifaceted" approach and its commitment to provide its "confirmed" expertise to North and West Africa countries in the fight against radicalization.

The Director of the Africa Center also highlighted the importance of the Moroccan-American partnership in the fight against extremism, noting that the two countries had signed a bilateral agreement on anti-terrorism assistance, on the sidelines of the first US-Africa Summit, held in Washington last August.
