Argentinian Association Condemns Brutal Repression by Polisario in Tindouf camps
The Association of Friends of the Kingdom of Morocco in Argentina (ASAMIMARG) condemned, on Monday, the brutal repression used by the polisario against the captive populations in the Tindouf camps, where they are subjected daily to various forms of torture and denial of their basic rights.
The international community is urged to take action to ensure full respect for human rights in Tindouf and to set up appropriate mechanisms to conduct a census of the populations in these camps, the Association said in a statement, calling for putting an end to the complicit silence of the international community, which helped the polisario, for four decades, to held Sahrawis against their will in camps lacking conditions for a decent life.
The Association, which includes academics, researchers, politicians, media professionals, economists and experts, added that the polisario was striving to prolong the regional conflict over the Moroccan Sahara to justify its existence as an armed group exploiting the international humanitarian assistance to enrich itself at the expense of the suffering of camps' populations.
These Moroccan citizens should be able to return to their country of origin, Morocco, to live in dignity in the southern provinces, under the autonomy initiative proposed by the Kingdom to end this long-running regional conflict, it noted.
The Argentinian Association also called on the United Nations and human rights organizations to put an end to the repression by the polisario in the Tindouf camps and to guarantee the exercise of fundamental rights by the population in captivity.
