Audrey Azoulay: Thanks to Its Diversity and Plural Culture, Morocco Symbolizes UNESCO's Values

Thanks to its diversity and plural culture, Morocco symbolizes the values of the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), said on Friday newly-elected UNESCO director general Audrey Azoulay.

"Morocco is a country of diversity and plural culture, it is enshrined even in its constitution, I personally think that these values helped me to be where I am now," she told the Moroccan press on the sidelines of the homage ceremony held for outgoing UNESCO director general Irina Bokova, which was attended by HRH Princess Lalla Meryem.

Azoulay said she really appreciates the presence of Her Royal Highness in this event.

She also noted that UNESCO is the embodiment of diversity, and the spreading of education and human values, adding that she is very proud to be entrusted with leading the organization.

She paid tribute to Bokova, saying that she led the body with resolve and commitment, giving the example of her action in favour of restoring Mali's heritage.

Audrey Azoulay will take office as of Nov. 15.
