Autonomy In Sahara is Most Modern, Workable Option on Field, Argentinian Academic

Autonomy in the Sahara represents the most modern and workable option on the field and is an effective initiative to bring about a peaceful settlement for a long-running regional conflict, said Dean of the Faculty of National Defence in Argentina Julio Spota.

In a statement to MAP on the sidelines of a conference organized, last weekend in Buenos Aires, inside this prestigious Faculty, Spota added that Morocco has presented an innovative initiative that can put an end to the tragedy of those who suffer from the persistence of the conflict that has been running for more than four decades.

For this specialist in anthropology and expert in strategic, defence and security affairs, the Moroccan autonomy initiative represents a platform for a peaceful solution, noting that the Kingdom, from a position of strength based on legitimacy, proposed a basis for negotiations which is, at the same time, a call to break the stalemate through a settlement based on dialogue, logic and legitimacy.

According to the Dean, the persistence of the dispute over the Sahara is an obstacle to efforts to promote global peace and security led by several countries within the framework of multilateral cooperation.

The academic mentioned the participation of the Kingdom during the last two years in the celebrations of the independence of Argentina, emphasizing that the presence of Morocco, the only Arab and African participant in these celebrations, is symbolic and reflects the good relations between the two countries.
