Benin's National Assembly for Morocco's Adherence to ECOWAS, Speaker

The National Assembly of Benin is in favour of Morocco's request to join the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), said, Monday in Rabat, its speaker Adrien Houngbedji.

"Just as did the (Beninese) government, we (the parliament of Benin) welcome the will expressed by Morocco to join ECOWAS," Houngbedji told the press after his talks with Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Nasser Bourita.

"Morocco has expressed a will that proves that the Kingdom has every reason to want to join the ECOWAS zone," said the speaker of the Beninese parliament, noting that Morocco is "an African country and a West African state which develops an investment policy in West Africa".

"This policy deserves to be better received and better supported," said Houngbedji.

According to the speaker of the National Assembly of Benin, a member state of ECOWAS, the meeting with Bourita focused on the main topic which is the will expressed by Morocco to join ECOWAS.

These talks are part of the official visit by a delegation of the Beninese Parliament to the Moroccan House of Representatives, he said.
